Domestic Violence is more than the physical violence.
Financial abuse occurs in 99% of domestic violence cases. Financial abuse is considered the invisible weapon and it is one of the most powerful used to keep victims from leaving.
WRC is excited to announce that we are part of the Allstate Foundation’s Purple Purse Challenge for a second year.
It’s a fundraising campaign launched by The Allstate Foundation where charities benefiting domestic violence survivors compete to raise the most money with the top team winning a grand prize cash donation of $100,000 from The Allstate Foundation. Funds raised will support life-changing financial empowerment services to help domestic violence survivors build safer lives for themselves and their families.
Today is the first day of the Challenge and it will go to October 25th. Last year WRC was able to raise around $2,900 through our fundraising page. We were also sent additional check with money from the Purple Purse Foundation sales of purses, charms, and donations. With those funds we have been able to provide assistance to survivors that are normally out of our budget. That assistance open doors and allowed the women to gain or keep employment that is vital to the leaving process.
Join our team here and raise awareness of Domestic Violence and directly impact the lives of survivors. As an added incentive or thank you for your donations WRC will be giving the first 200 donors a Purple Purse Charm. Every $20 donation will enter you to win the Kerry Washington designed Purple Purse. And if you join our team as a fundraiser you will receive an extra entry.
Instead of asking, “Why do they stay?” donate and help survivors be #FreeToWalk.
