Established in 2006 Friends of WRC members enhance the ability of Women’s Resource Center to provide quality services and enjoyable activities for the children who are the silent victims of domestic violence.
The Friends of WRC’s mission is to provide positive, enriching and memorable experiences for the children residing in the WRC transitional and shelter housing programs through their fundraising and advocacy activities.
Friends continues to grow with over 100 active members and a very involved Steering Committee.
How Do Friends Help?
Friends’ holds two major fund raisers a year: Have a Heart Luncheon in February and North County Walk Away From Domestic Violence in October. Monies raised from these events have provided the following:
$4,000 to install the proper surface under the children’s playground equipment
$3,000 towards Christmas gift-cards for the teenagers in residence
Additional funding for the children’s counseling
Funding for summer day camp
Field trips to various entertainment venues
Cribs for the babies
Bicycles & helmets for teenagers in residence
What Does being a Members of Friends Involve?
There are two levels of support: active Steering Committee membership & General Membership support. For example: the Steering Committee structures fund raising events to raise money to build the “Fun Fund” and distribute the monies raised, as directed by WRC. Participating in the Steering Committee is “hands on” and we always welcome new energy & ideas! For further information about being a Steering Committee member, please call: 760-757-3500.
Participating as a “General Member” involves attending our fund raising events and renewing a minimal, annual membership fee.
