Collaboration between WRC & BackFence Society Press Release
This art show is a collaboration by WRC and BackFence Society, it was inspired by the constant and current bravery of women and men coming forward sharing their stories as survivors of sexual assault and harassment. The art featured in this show has been created by survivors, advocates, employees, and in honor of our clients to share our voices bringing understanding and attention to Sexual Assault Awareness month. All art in this show will be done on or with denim as a tribute to the case that garnered world attention. On April 25th, 1998 the Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped her rapist remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Every April 25th people across the globe wear denim to voice their outrage and support for survivors of sexual assault. The art will be auctioned off during the show to benefit WRC with 10% to BackFence Society.
