SEXUAL ASSAULT OVERVIEW

Sexual Assault is never the victim’s fault. Sexual assault is an act in which a person sexually touches another person without that person’s consent, or coerces or physically forces a person to engage in a sexual act against their will.

WRC Forms of Sexual Assault

Some forms of sexual assault include:

  • Attempted rape
  • Fondling or unwanted sexual touching
  • Forcing a person to perform unwanted sexual acts such as oral sex or penetration of the perpetrators body
  • Penetration of the victims body is considered rape

A person cannot give consent if they are impaired by physical, mental, or emotional reasons, as well as their status by age, role, or relationship to the perpetrator.

RESOURCES

Rape is often not reported for many different reasons. Some of those reasons include fear of not being believed, fear of retaliation, pressure from others, distrust of law enforcement, and not understanding what happened to them was rape. Every survivor will have their own response to the trauma of sexual assault. WRC has resources to help the survivor on their journey to healing. If you are in need of assistance or want to speak to an advocate call the hotline.
